Here’s why you’re feeling restless…
Are You in a Spiritual Season of Transition?
Have you ever wondered what are some signs that God is calling you higher or transitioning you?
Something I've experienced in my personal life, and I’ve also seen my coaching clients experience, is restlessness. This restlessness can be experienced two different ways.
Let’s dive into the first way. Let's say God has given you assignment. Examples of assignment…maybe He’s called you to go to school/take classes, maybe it’s job, or an organization He called you to be a part of, it can even be a relationship. So, let’s say things are going well for the most part, you're doing what He's called you to do but suddenly you start to feel restless.
It's like the grace God gave you be faithful to that assignment has lifted. You might notice things start to bother you, though they weren't bothering you before. You may question and WHY it’s bothering you. You may think to yourself, “I've been dealing with this for years! Why is it all of a sudden agitating my spirit?” The grace for your assignment lifts a little bit. It’s like a woman who's pregnant. Her pregnancy may not have been necessarily comfortable the whole time. Something shifts in that final month. She starts to lose the grace for being pregnant.
The restlessness accentuates that fact it's time for you move into a different phase of your life, career or purpose. Whether it's in a job or whether it's in a relationship, you feel something as shifted. Sometimes restlessness feels like something is off or something doesn't feel right. Pay close attention to that. It’s just one indicator that God often uses to show us that the grace for this assignment has lifted. It’s your sign that you are to transition.
Another indicator of that falls into this restlessness category is when God starts to open your eyes. Here's what I mean by that. You start to desire different things for your life. You start to dream bigger; you're setting bigger goals. You feel like this enhanced motivation to do other things.
I've experienced that in job situations. There’s this overwhelming feeling I've outgrown where I am. You may think, “I don’t belong here anymore.” or “My mindset and/or goals don’t fit this environment/relationship.” You might sense there are things you need to learn or do, and this current environment is not conducive for that. Or you sense you won’t get the support you need to get to your next level.
Years ago, I was in a Bible believing church. I was so grateful for the biblical foundation provided there however God started to teach me about the gifts of the Holy Spirit during my personal quiet times with Him. The hunger to learn about these gifts grew. When I would talk to different leaders there about such things I was met with much resistance. So here I was with God trying to train me in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and it was very evident that the grace for being a part of my current church was lifting.
I had a hunger and motivation to know more but the people around me were stifling that. Some of you know exactly what I’m talking about. As a matter of fac some of you are experiencing it right now! There’s nothing wrong with you; you’re just in transition.
If you’re resonating with this message, I want to encourage you to pay attention to patterns. You might start having dreams with similar themes. God may start putting certain ideas on your heart. Maybe you’re experiencing this heavy burden to launch that business, write that book, start a podcast, end a relationship or move. I believe the Holy Spirit allows you to be uncomfortable because it's time for you to step into something new. Pay close attention to that.
When you start feeling that restlessness, when you feel the grace has lifted, when you start realizing that you're dreaming big and the people around you are not supportive or bringing resistance, pray and ask God for your next steps. Remember, it's okay to feel uncomfortable. Holy Spirit is the Comforter! Lean into the process and ask Him whatever questions you need to. Just listen and follow His instructions. Obedience will open any doors that He has for you.
